BACK IN THE MILK!

Goat milk for everyone!

One of the main reasons that we got goats in the first place was to have our own goat milk. Now that Daisy gave birth again, we have the opportunity to milk her once again, and we sure are happy about it.

MAMA THE MILKER

Around here, a lot of people take turns with tasks. This works out well since we've got a lot of people, and a lot of tasks. Some jobs, like milking the goat, are highly sought after, so this is mostly a job for Mama-Pepper and Pinkie-Pepper, who have been very diligent lately to oversee that it gets done properly on a daily basis.

Overnight, they separate Pocket from her. He can make it through the night just fine without drinking any milk, and it allows her to fill up by morning. Then, we can milk about a quart out of her. At the moment, that's about how much we are getting daily.

Once Pocket gets bigger and is weaned, we'll be able to keep all of the milk for ourselves, and we should be up around two quarts a day. If, for some reason we have to leave for a while, we cna just leave Pocket with Daisy overnight, and he'll keep her milk bags from becoming too full, which is nice.

It's a wholesome and rewarding way for our family to get milk, and we have been enjoying every minute of it. In a blind taste test, Pinkie-Pepper couldn't even tell which one glass was store bought cow milk, and which one was our own goat milk. I share that in case anyone was wondering how big of a difference in flavor there is.

Until next time…

We are finally back in the milk again too! My kids really don't like the store bought stuff anymore that they are spoiled with yummy raw goat milk.

Congrats! It's a great time of the year.

Yeah, a wonderful time of year for sure!

In our little village we have a shop that sells both raw [straight from] cow and goat milk,
There must be a demand for it for them to bother to do it.

It was illegal back in Wisconsin to purchase it, which is part of why we moved here, and part of why we now have our own too!

Hello..
@papa-pepper
Total Awesome....!!!
I sure do miss fresh goat milk.
I have a friend that lives quite a distance from me thats raises goats. It's such a treat when I do get a chance to visit her and bring home some fresh milk. The best..!!!!

Very nice! We plan on making some goat milk soap too!

Hello my friend! :D
I've got to ask, is that green thing on top of the jar some sort of strainer? If not, what is it? :D
Your lovely wife @mama-pepper looks like she's getting ready to deliver herself soon, best wishes for a safe and healthy delivery for her and the rest of your ewe's as well. :D
God bless you and your wonderful family. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

Yeah, our own birth will be soon, and that is a strainer on top! Thanks!
