Chai Latte
I recently ordered a chai latte from Starbucks that was very delicious, but very sweet. The chai latte is a combination of black tea, cinnamon, ginger root, vanilla, ginger, cardamom, steamed almond milk, sugar and honey.
The warm and sweet savory spices just add a wonderful flavor to the traditional black tea.
I decided to duplicate the recipe and omit some of the sugar and my homemade chai latte turned out great.
I was able to get some loose leaf California chai tea from my local farmers market. It cost $4.77 for a fourth of a pound. I will be able to get about 15 cups out of this amount. Generally a couple of grande size chai latte from Starbucks will cost $4.60 with taxes.
When you buy the looseleaf tea all of the ingredients are included, and this saves you money from buying individual ingredients that can become costly.
For the sweetener, I added organic blue agave nectar and used a milk frother to steam my almond milk. Heating the milk in the microwave or on top of the stove will work just as well.
I enjoyed my chai latte this morning, but most of all enjoyed paying a fraction of the cost for this tasty savory drink.
