Ten Tasty Critters

When many see an insect crawling by the last thing they think of is food but I am here to tell you that many of those little critters are very tasty and in some countries may even be considered a delicacy. While the critters on this list may be safe to consume (under the right conditions) don't try eating them without first doing proper research or consulting a professional. Many insects and bugs contain parasites and need to be prepared properly before consumption.

10 - Scorpion

The scorpion is considered a delicously in parts of China. It is said that these tasty little buggers are very cruncy and taste like a potato chip. They are also very high in protein and other nutrients. They can be deep fried, eaten raw or even dipped in chocolate.

9 - Crickets

The next tasty treat on this list is crickets. It is said that the taste of a cricket can be compared to that of the taste of popcorn. They can be prepared in many different ways such as baking them or if you are a chocolate lover you could always try some chocolate covered crickets. Crickets like allot of other insects contain allot of protein and other nutrients.

8 - Wood Lice

Many consider the Wood Lice to be a bug although its actually not a bug but a crustacean. Wood lice are also commonly called Sow Bugs. Those who have mustered up enough courage to try one of these bugs have said they taste allot like shrimp.

7 - StinkBugs

Yes you read that right, StinkBugs. The Stinkbug is a delicousy in Mexico. Those who have had the pleasure of eating one say they taste like apples and like most the other bugs on this list are a great source of protein. So the next time you are making that protein shake don't forget to check under that log outside to give your drink that little extra kick.

6 - Earwigs

It is said that Earwigs are very tasty and crunchy when toasted. Along with being tasty and crunchy they are also a great source of nutrients.

5 - Butterflies

These beatiful creatures aren't just for looking at. During their larval stage butterflies are full of protein and iron making them very sought after in some countries.

4 - Ants

Depending on who you ask, its said that ants have a sour like tast that can be compared to lemons or vinegar, others have said they taste like bacon. There are many ways to prepare an ant for consumption such as roasting them , baking them or covering them in chocolate.

3 - Bees

No, I am not reffering to their delicious honey. Bees themselves can be consumed while still being in larval or pupal form. It is said that bees taste like peanuts or almonds while Wasps are said to have a pine-nutty flavor.

2 - Worms

Earthworms are easy to find and can be eaten in a pinch. They can be eaten raw but its recommended that you cook them. It is said that the taste of an earthworm can be described as an earthy taste which isn't surprising since they live in dirt most their lives.

1 - Flies

Yes I am as surprised as you are. Certain flies can be eaten and the taste of them is said to vary depending on its enviroment. For example a fly that has been developing on a water habitat could possibly taste like fish.

Bon Appetit !

Have you ever tried any of these tasty critters or possibly another that isn't on this list ? Comment below and let us know what tasty critters you have tried.

If shtf I guess maybe I would eat ants. lol

Ants do seem like the better option on the menu.

Next time try some ants :P

I'm pretty sure that I've unintentionally swallowed a few flies in my lifetime that have flown into my mouth unexpectedly. Does that count?

I also wouldn't be keen on the consumption of Bee larvae as many species of Bee are slowly dying out. We need to look after them.

It sucks when that happens.

I also wouldn't be keen on the consumption of Bee larvae as many species of Bee are slowly dying out. We need to look after them.

So very true !

"Canned tomatoes, hops and broccoli have them and fig paste can contain up to 13 insect heads per 100 grams, canned fruit juices can contain one maggot for every 150 milliliters. The thing is you don't really notice but each person ingests about 2 pounds of flies, maggots and other bugs per year"

Yup but there is worst things we have consumed. For example for anyone that has eaten hamburger, they have likely ate some feces.

So I guess you like your food fresh/alive :)

I haven't tried any alive food or raw food.

this discussion is why you should make sure your food is thoroughly cooked

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

It's certainly important to know what you are doing if you plan on eating any tasty critters as they can contain parasites. Making sure any food is properly prepared is important.

Holy rat poop ...those critters not on my menu whether cooked or not...

I wouldn't eat them either .....

@rentmoney Sorry I'm writing here, but where have you gone? Something happened?

Thanks for your comment,

Real life got busy on me and I had to attend to some things. Nothing negative just general life things.

Well, since I am a cat, I regularly eat flies, moths, crickets, spiders and anything else that comes across my path.

My Hooman on the other hand, says the only thing insect-like he has ever tried was a chocolate-covered cricket, and that was on a dare at a state fair.

=^..^=

Hi cat please as your human, how did those crickets taste ?
