Learning how to grow micro greens could save your life 🌱

One of the first things I did upon arriving in my new home in the UK was to order a micro green sprouting tray with a bunch of different seeds.

I did this for two reasons:

Changing weather patterns

First and foremost I simply want to understand how best to do this.

Looking towards the future in situations where there is a lack of nutritious food, having seeds on hand will resolve this nutrition problem in just three days. As we move further into the Grand Solar Minimum with more and more extreme weather we are going to see agricultural crop failures which will lead to huge spikes in food prices. So, learning this skill now could very well be a game changer for you and your family.

Optimal health

The second reason is because to eat something which is bursting with new life and energy will give your body the perfect life force (and nutrition) it needs to perform at its optimum. This is in stark contrast to the effect created by eating the kind of things most people consider to be food.

My basic food mantra is simple:

Fresh is best!

And I always eat raw when possible. Cooking is for the pleasure of the palate. Raw is for the pleasure of the body... and can still be pleasurable on the palate!

I drink a large fruit smoothie every day mixed with all kinds of herbal goodies.... moringa, amilaki, jiagulan, noni, papaya leaf, spirulina.

Here is what I had for breakfast, mixed with water, not milk!

I am not a strict vegan because at times I eat the meat of animals from local farms back home in France, which is in its own way teeming with life... lots of live bacteria in there, particularly B12.

I could just take a B12 supplement, but I'm gonna be honest, I enjoy the taste of meat but limit my intake to around once or twice a month. And I enjoy supporting the farmers who respect their animals.

I have noted however, the less I eat meat the more conscious I become of how ridiculously chewy and unnatural it feels in my mouth. And sometimes I notice how it doesn't make my body feel great. I feel heavy and sluggish. Not like I feel after a micro green salad!

Food is usually judged by how it tastes but let's face it, how it makes us feel is much more important.

The Seed Sprouter

This little baby cost me around £22 (Amazon link here) which is expensive for what it is and in time I will find a better way to create these at a fraction of this cost.

These are the seeds I went for as a test run. More will be added over time.

Suggestions anyone???

After just 24h I could already see some little roots appearing.

The top layer is the organic sprouting mix.

After two days the green shoots were appearing with lots of roots stretching their way down to the lower level.

The pink kale on the lower level didn't seem to mind this.

After three days the upper level looked like this, where it went directly to a large salad bowl, mixed with lots of more traditional salad goodies.

I felt AMAZING after eating this!

Life begets life.

In Conclusion

The title of this post may seem a bit dramatic but I firmly believe food is going to be a big problem for the majority of the human population in the not too distant future. The media are not widely reporting on it but many areas of the world are already seeing huge crop losses or no planting at all due to weather extremes like drought, flooding & hail.

When the food in our shops is too expensive for the average person to buy civil unrest will follow. Hungry people are not reasonable people, so they are very likely to help themselves to food you may have growing in your garden or allotment.

I intend to deal with this by having large quantities of seeds ready to hand out for free with simple instructions on how to grow them. Remember, all you have to do is let the seeds go to flower and you will have more seeds. The cycle is so perfectly simple.

My father once told me it is better to teach the people how to grow than to simply hand out the food.

And what could be simpler and faster to grow than this!

I just.love this!! I dont have a fancy sprouting box but use a simple large glass jar covered with muslin. Works great. Gonna start a batch of fenugreek sprouts this morning! 🌿😍

I thought about using jars but how do you deal with the water sitting at the bottom?

The trays also seem to provide space for the roots to grow down a bit, which i assume is a good thing?

Loving all the suggestions and new ideas here!

Good advice indeed. I have 4 sprouting trays on the go all the time with Fenugreek, Red Clover, Onion, Chick Peas, Red Kohlrabi, Mung Beans, Lentils, Broccoli, Radish, Rape, and Black Tuscany Kale.
For just a few cents a day I have fresh, nutrient-rich food.

wow I haven't tried red clover, what a great selection you have xx

Red Clover looks a lot like Alfalfa when sprouted. I just lurv sprouts.

Awesome list! Thank you so much. I will be amazon shopping tomorrow!

Unless you know of somewhere better to order from?

I get mine from fruithillfarms an Irish company. I'm not sure what they cost on Amazon but these look like pretty good value to me.

I love sprouts, they are such an important part of me and my girls diet. Broccoli seeds have to be my favourite to sprout they are so good. I use jars, i usually have a few going at a time. Love the mix you have going and yeah to Kale sprouts yum xxx

Is there is difference between micro greens & sprouts? Sorry, total newby here!

well it is all sprouting really, but micro greens means you sprout them longer until you actually see some green on them. I do both depending on what I am sprouting, the difference is the time, sprouting is usually 3- 4 days and micro greens is a week or longer xxx

In hot Thailand sprouts take 48 hrs and microgreens 4-5 days. For some reason, I still call my microgreens 'sprouts' and always prefer that yummy fresh GREEN!! 🌿

that is very true, it depends on the climate, when it is hotter they take less time, cheers @artemislives xx

i like the setup you've got for it, doesn't take much space

It's a good one hey. Small but effective ;)

I am about to build a setup that I will be posting on growing micro greens! They are about to become my main source of food. And if I can build some income as well then that is cool too

Excellent to hear this! Main source of food is the way it should be.

Once you have the space running smooth am sure an income could follow. I believe as time goes on more and more people will wake up to this one and if you are in a position to supply... you are in a position to fly!

Oh I’ve been thinking of doing this too! How do you eat them? Do you add them to salads or make salads completely from sprouts only?

Posted using Partiko iOS

I just eat them as a salad. The also make nice toppers for anything you would use lettuce for and actually has nutritional value.

The pink kale i really enjoyed munching on. The flavour was so great without any need for anything else. I threw the organic mixture into a big salad bowl with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn. And a little dressing. There must be so many ways we can eat them. I wonder what they taste like blended???

wow this is such a great idea, I have bookmarked it.

You really must try this immediately. Bookmarks can get forgotten ;)

Put seeds in tray... keep moist... eat three days later.

Seeds bought. Coming up this week :) Will bring it of office to eat, I was running out of ideas for healthy little meals.

Good for you! Please send me links under my posts if you do any updates on this.

I want to follow now ;)

yEAH promise :)
