The Art of Making A Good Lunch Box

When were young, lunch at school means a peanut butter sandwich and probably a piece of fruit. On a good day, mum would make an egg omlette sandwich and what would be the best lunch ever. Fast forward 20 something years and things have changed. A lunch like what I described able is just not acceptable anymore. So I call my lunches a work of art …

Lunch boxes these days comes in different shapes and sizes. They also comes with ice packs to keep the food nice and cold or you can bring themos if you want a hot meal for your child. There is morning tea and lunch for my little one and when he goes to primary school next year, he probably need 3 boxes cos there is snack break as well. Sounds like a lot of work already. Each box, I would try to make them different so no being lazy and double up on the same food so they don’t get bored of it (unless they insist they want the same thing). In a typical box I will include some fruit, some cucumber/carrots, popcorn, crackers, sultanas, cheese dips and some yoghurt. The aim is to give our little on a balanced diet. The sandwiches, baby E have been asking for circle shaped (he got the idea from a friend of ours) but reminds us he wants to have the crust too which we also include in the box. He loves bread crust and just eat that all day if he had his way. Just thinking of what to put in each week can be a pain but lucky my little one is easy he doesn’t mind having the same thing virtually even day. Now winter is approaching, I would ditch sandwich and give him a noodle dish in a thermos instead so he can have a hot lunch.
