The best way to get the most out of your garden (or farmers market) is to preserve some of that delicious food so that you can enjoy it year round!

The list of tried and true favourite recipes from our homestead keeps growing and I really enjoyed gathering them all to share in one place. There's something for everyone here with recipes for: jams, jellies, conserves, wine, vinegars and vegetables.

We love preserving our own food because we can control all of the ingredients that go into these products. We also like using recipes that focus on great flavours and foodie enjoyment!

If you haven't canned before, the first post will give you the basics on what you should know. It's really easy to learn and most people find themselves hooked once they've done it a few times!

Getting Started

Water Bath & Pressure Canning Explained

Canning is simply a form of preservation that involves heating, sterilizing and sealing your food into jars. It is one of the easiest food preservation methods to learn. We preserve about 1000 jars each year and there's nothing better than walking into the pantry and grabbing a jar of food, fully knowing the quality and origin of the ingredients inside. learn more here

Delicious Homemade Dilly Beans

Dilly beans are a popular pantry staple around here. A few jars are also inevitably smuggled home by guests so we make a lot of dilly beans! These beans are tangy and crisp. You can make them spicy or extra dilly - or both! Serve them as a side with sandwiches and hamburgers or chop them up and add them to salads or wraps for a crispy zing. These beans cost around $4.99 for 500ml at the store. It's well worth planting some of your own beans this spring so that you can indulge to your hearts content in this easy and satisfying recipe. Boozie Recipes

Carrot Wine Recipe

This recipe makes a semi-dry white wine with a twist. It really does not taste like carrot. One word of warning: Root vegetable wines do tend to turn out stronger than fruit wines. Find the recipe here: Carrot Wine Recipe.

How To Make Rose Hip Wine

At the Walkerland homestead we have a passion for creating unique recipes. One of my favourite culinary ingredients to work with is the rose.I've shared how to Dry Rose Hips and today I wanted to share a recipe for making Rose Hip Wine. We've just recently enjoyed a bottle (a little young still) and it was quite delightful: dry, mildly fruity with a vanilla undertone. For those of you that worry about making things that taste "unpleasantly floral" don't worry! No one would ever guess this wine came from a rose bush. Get the recipe here!

I've got my lemon balm and mint extracts going after reading your post a while back. :) Looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

oh how wonderful!! This makes me so happy!

What a wonderful compilation of fabulous recipes! I'm going to bookmark it on #busy to come back to. That Apple and fig one looks divine!! And the rumkopt... 😉💙

I love the chutney - It goes so well with cheese (my favourite food of all time). I am going to have to check out busy - I have heard mention a few times now but have no idea what it is!

It's such another interface for Steemit... you log on via steemconnect and off you go. I flip between busy and steemit for different reasons.. but Busy has a notification alert and a bookmarks function, plus you can save your drafts which is awesome as sometimes I have an idea out and no time to write so I throw in a photo and title and come back to it later.

oh, thank you so much for filling me in. I'll have to check it out. :)

Oh, I'm so disappointed that I flat out forgot you had posted a strawberry jam recipe! Especially one that doesn't use loads of sugar and boils the berries to death, because I like chunky jam. My jam making attempt last week didn't turn out too great, so I've just got to try yours :)

Sorry your jam didn't turn out as you wanted it to! I am sure it was still usable right?

I love the large fruit pieces. I swear the flavours are like fresh strawberry. Funny enough ...my husband has decided he likes his jam that spreads nice and smooth so I have to figure out an alternative way to do this while keeping that bright flavour.

Oh I love having all of these in one place! Brilliant! Your recipes are so well put together and I love that they use ingredients found right on the homestead. Thank you so much for putting these together for us!

I though being as most of these recipes were written out of season (when I have more time) that it might be useful to share them again now that the canning season is gearing up! I'm glad you liked it.

I was looking for one of my recipes and could not find it using the search function which is what provoked me to compile this list. I must not be tagging or using keywords properly. A lot of posts just don't pop up even when I use the whole title.
