Food photography: Fruit of Calabash tree

Calabash tree is species of flowering plant that is native to Central and South America and Africa. The national tree of St. Lucia, it produces unusual flowers and fruits.
It is often grown as an ornamental tree, but it is also used in traditional systems of medicine.

The tree produces large fruits, called Jícara, which is not edible to humans. It is big up to 50 cm, the hard shells of which are useful as bowls or cups for serving or drinking. In Africa it is also used for decoration and musical instruments.
