Manchester United took on Tottenham and I knew that was the biggest test yet for the new interim manager of Manchester United; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I knew it would be a tough test but the bottom line is they must grab the result even though Tottenham are playing in front of the home fans at Wembley.
It was a classy encounter and Manchester United lost thrice to this opponent at home, prior to this meeting and according to records book but they have never lost four to the same opponent on a trot.
The affair was quick cagey as Tottenham dominated the early exchanges, with United contented with hitting them on the break. It worked to super effect as you see United take the lead through Marcus Rashford. Spurs soon became conserved as they don’t want to leave room for more counter attacks. It was a free flowing game and it was beautiful to see it was end to end as well.
Manchester United were precise, as they had 4 shots while 2 were on target as against Tottenham, who had 6 shots with none on target. United played with pace, fluidity and were dangerous on the counter. Manchester United brought back the counter attacking football to great effect and they defended in numbers too with bodies on the ball all the time. I was particularly impressed with Lindelof; what a season he is having but Phil Jones was still poor as he has been prior to now. Hopefully, Eric Bailey would be back soon, so Jones can take to the bench.
David De Gea was the star of the show. He made so many brilliant and jaw dropping saves which only a world class goalkeeper could make and that is why he is up there in my list of good goalkeepers. What a phenomenal player he is. He is so good with his feet as well as his hands but my only concern has always been his inability to save penalties and also his kicks, but it doesn’t matter, as long as he keeps winning us 3 points as he did tonight.
