The Bigger You Are The Harder You Fall

A Liquorice All Sorts team is what I would call Manchester United right now. Fans have always said they are too big to get relegated and gone are the days bookies are paying out bets on them after Christmas for a Premiership winning title.

Some bookies paid out with still 12 games left in the 2010/11 season. Nine years ago it has gone from that to this lol. You couldn't script it.

The problem they had is that the club allowed Alex Ferguson to retire with an ageing squad and a massive task lay ahead. He should have made it easier as the managerial role was a poison chalice for anyone that took it on. Everyone is going to be compared against his record and deemed a failure if no silverware is obtained.

One of the many songs that the fans used to sing.

Old Trafford has become a merry go round for managers coming and going and each one has added a few players. The result is you have a hodge podge side with no direction and no ideas. Many people can see this and have seen it for a few seasons already. They could have quite easily been in this position 3 or 4 years ago but used a band aid to hide the real problems.

David De Gea has kept them higher in the league tables than what they deserved and he can't be expected to be the rescue act in every game. There was one season in particular where he saved everything and he wasn't human and the team should have been a mid table team back then.

You can't blame this situation on the players or the manager ,but the directors who are allowing this to happen. On the business side of things off the pitch the club is doing very well and at some point the performances are going to hit their bank account. If you are a team that is 17 or 18th in the table are you going to get as much tv coverage as the top 4? The answer should be no but we are talking about one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The money the club has made over the last 5 years unfortunately now needs to be used to lure players to the club. In the past players would have gone and played there because of their name and possible silverware and medals to be won. Today that isn't the case and the only way players will go is if United inflate salaries making it worth their while. I think they will struggle to get the top players and struggle to land a top manager. The managerial job is too risky and think maybe they have to stick with Solskjaer, but I don't think they will. The risk of being in the same position in February or March is too high and something needs to happen and fast.

Can someone come in and change their fortunes? Maybe as it is possible, but I doubt it as the squad is a shocker even if you bought everyone back 100 percent fit. There isn't one player playing today that would have made the team 10 years ago and that is where the problem lies. Other clubs have got stronger whilst United have got slowly weaker and weaker. I

I tease my son in law that he supports a relegation battle team and this season should be really exciting for him. The reality is they are and it will be a very interesting season and wouldn't bet either way. Mondays performance against Arsenal was shocking and they were very fortunate, today's was worse as they made Newcastle look like World Champions which is a tough act to pull off.

No fun anymore as they can't see the funny side. For those of you not familiar with the rivalry between United ad Liverpool the Liverpool fan is the one smiling.

Coming up for them next is Liverpool and I honestly can't wait for that one as I think every United fan is dreading this fixture right now.

As a united supporter, I have to admit that you've nailed it. Fair comments all round. Painful to say, but!

It isn't nice to see whatever team you support when things start unraveling. The next move is the most important one the board are going to have to make in probably the last 20 years of the club. They can't afford to get this wrong and it is all about finishing mid table and getting rid of the crap they have accumulated over the last 5 years. Choose 4 youngsters as your nucleus and start over by adding quality around them.

Alex Ferguson never left a footprint because I believe he's the only man who could coach United. It might take ten years to see the old United

Maybe longer as there are no guarantees they can ever go back to those days. That is like once in a lifetime what happened and I don't think they can ever replicate that again.

It's really helpless at old Trafford I just saw a statement from David De Gea and well ole's days may be numbered

I had to after calling it two weeks ago. I think they may get some points off Norwich and Brighton but definitely not wins and only draws at best. United don't have a proven goal scorer which makes getting a result doubly hard. Bournemouth are tricky away so see nothing there either. The sides that are organised this side has no chance.

Bruce finally got some luck today, after all MU had 70% possession but no man able to give them that much needed first goal. They also had a tired team after being pushed around allot in the Netherlands, missing players...I'm not a MU fan, but I have a feeling that somehow they might be able to get a draw with Liverpool.

They don't have a goal scorer and it is that obvious. There is no one playing today who even looked like scoring. 3 shots on goal in 90 minutes. Against Liverpool they won't last as defensively they are poor as well. Liverpool will go for blood as it is at Old Trafford.

It's pretty funny, I was just thinking that I don't hear as much about them now as I used to. It used to be that it was the only team most Americans knew so they were automatically fans of them. :P
