Terry who announced his retirement from football over a week ago will be Assistant to newly appointed manager, Dean Smith.

Smith, who is a lifelong support of Villa was announced as new manager to replace former manager, Steve Bruce who was fired last week.

The new coach moves to Villa Park from fellow championship side, Brentford and would be looking to take Villa easy from their current position.

Villa who were playoff finalists last season, losing out to Fulham, have found themselves in the bottom half of the table with a winless run of nine games.

CEO, Christian Purslow said the appointments signify the beginning of a new era and is a welcomed development.

Terry spent last season captaining the Villa side after leaving Chelsea and was formerly linked to partnering Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry who was also tipped as Bruce's successor.
