Survival of the fittest

It is going be more like a Playoff for who plays in the Championship come next season when Swansea host fellow relegation strugglers, Southampton at the Liberty stadium on Tuesday night.

Both teams come into the match level on points but the Saints are ahead on goal difference and Mark Hughes will be looking to finally take a grip of their Premier League survival jacket.

Swansea will be ruing their 1-0 to Bournemouth last time out as other results went against them and further slipping them into the bottom three. This is the first time they will be starting a matchday in the bottom three sincerely 3rd March when they defeated West Ham 4-1.

The Saints would also feel hard done after Everton scored a stoppage time equaliser to deny them of three points last time out which would have just meant they need just one point from this game to survive.

The Swans have won just two of their last eleven meetings against the Saints, (W2, D3, L6) while Southampton enjoy a healthy record with their visits to the Welsh side, losing just one of their last five games there.

It is indeed a must win for either side.

Possible Scenarios and Consequences

Swansea wins - Southampton must defeat Man City in their last game of the season and hope Swansea lose their final match. Even a draw in the last game would save the Carlos Carvalho led side.

Southampton wins - It means relegation for Swansea as even a loss for the Saints on the last day would mean Swansea have to defeat Stoke City with at least 6 goals.

A Draw - This will push things to the wire. Southampton must win against Man City on the last day in the event that Swansea defeat Stoke on the same day. A draw would keep the Saints alive, provided Swansea lose at home to already relegated Stoke City.

MY PREDICTION

Mark Hughes would want to save his side the stress of having to wait on others to do for them what they can do for themselves and Swansea knowing what opportunity this is, giving they might have a less tougher opposition in their last game as against Southampton facing a merciless Man City side, they will put in their last blood.

I feel, the better team on the night will wọn. Tough call.
