Koscielny who is currently out injured was deputy to Per Mertersacker during the last campaign although he wore the armband on more occasions than the German who played a fringe role throughout the season.

Mertersacker who has subsequently retired from football and taken over as the manager of the club's Academy would be succeeded by his former partner.

Emery also named four Vice captains for the team which include, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Granit Xhaka. One of these four is set to led the the team out against Manchester City as they make their bow in this season's Premier League on Sunday.

Although the Gunners' boss did not specify in which order but it is believed to be in the order as mentioned above, taking into consideration precedence of how all these named players have had to captain the team.

Ramsey who was at a point during the transfer window linked with a move away from Arsenal to London rivals, Chelsea would finally get to play a more important role as most have predicted that the team would be built around the Welshman.
