Ireland lose to Netherlands in Euro U17 quarter-finals after goalkeeper sent off for coming off line

in #football6 years ago

European Under-17 Championship final between Republic of Ireland and Netherlands has finished under some controversial circumstances. After 1:1 draw game went into penalty shoot-out to reveal who would progress to semi-finals. As Adam Indah of Ireland missed first spot-kick with the following 4 players of both sides has scored all theirs, boys in green were desperate to save the game. Irish keeper Jimmy Corcoan, already booked earlier in the fixture, saved the shot of Daishawn Redan but then has been immediately sent off by the ref because of step off the line when making the save.

Even the official decision was correct, the second yellow card was too damn harsh. Defender McEntree was forced to replace the sent off keeper but predictably failed to save the last shot. Ireland senior team boss Martin O’Neill and his assistant Roy Keane, who had been watching the game from the stands, tried to confront the ref but decision was already made. Oh dear, it must be really painful for young lads to be eliminated from the tournament like that.
