Selain itu di UEFA Champions League, Liverpool baru kalah dari PSG 1-2 tengah pekan lalu. Dua kondisi ini menuntut kemenangan dari Juergen Klopp dan Liverpool di laga ini.
Everton kini sedang berada di posisi ke 6 dengan 22 poin, terpaut sebelas poin dengan Liverpool. Namun kadang dalam laga derby, posisi klasemen tidak cukup banyak berpengaruh. Meskipun The Toffees telah cukup lama tidak menang di Anfield, derby selalu bicara tentang gengsi dan motivasi.
