The Super Eagles face the Bafana Bafana in what will be a crunch quarter final fixture.
Both teams qualified from the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification Group E and the Super Eagles couldn't win any of the encounters against their opponent.
The first leg in Nigeria saw the Bafana Bafana record a shock 2-0 win against Nigeria. Nigeria could only muster a 1-1 draw in the return leg.
This means the super eagles coach knows what is at stake. The South Africa team cannot be underestimated.
Despite the fact that they won only one match in the group stage, their victory against host Egypt will boost their morale. They now have the confidence that they can beat anybody.
The Gameplan
This will not be an easy game for sure. The South Africa team led by Stuart Baxter love to sit deep and punish their opponent via counter attacks. Players like Percy Tau and Thembinkosi Lorch are charged with leading the counter attacks. This is where Nigeria should be careful.
Nigeria will see much of the ball leading to the defenders coming out to support the midfield. They should keep an eye on the duo mentioned above.
I hope Gernot Rohr set up a 4-4-2 formation with Onuachu and Ighalo upfront, supported by Iwobi and chukwueze on the wing. We can have Ndidi and Etebo in the central midfield position. The Bafana Bafana will sit deep and Nigeria should go for an early goal. The tall Onuachu will provide aerial presence and Ighalo will provide mobility around the box. This will prove difficult for the South Africa defenders to keep an eye on both players.
It won't take long before we get a goal thereby forcing them to come out while we score more goals. Onuachu can be substituted later on for a midfielder to curtail whatever threat the South Africa team want to create.
I believe with this tactics, Nigeria will be long gone before the Bafana Bafana know what hit them.
