Teaching Our Children Liberty: The Tuttle Twins and The Creature from Jekyll Island

in #freedom6 years ago

It's Tuttle Twin Tuesday!

Every Tuesday for the next 8 weeks, I will review each of the Tuttle Twin books. I made a previous post on this subject a few days back, you can see it here.

The Tuttle Twins and The Creature from Jekyll Island

Teaching our children about the Federal Reserve seems like a tricky task. Where does a parent begin? How do we explain that the money we use is being controlled by a banking cartel? How about a children's book that explains about the Creature from Jekyll Island.

This book teaches children some concepts that seem advanced, but are made simple. Concepts like Fiat Currency:

Fiat Currency: Money that derives its value not from any natural characteristics (such as usefulness, desirability, etc), but from the guarantee of government that it must be accepted and used.

This book asks children:

  • Why did Grandpa Tuttle's savings become worth less when the "creature" created new money?
  • Why do governments like controlling and creating money?
  • What are the problems with fiat currency and more importantly, what money system would be better for the economy?

Ehem, Bitcoin. Gold backed currency!

The Fixed Income Squeeze

So grandpa Tuttle is retired and is living on a fixed income, like many retired elderly. He saved a set amount of money aside to retire and calculated how much it would cost to reasonably live for the remainder of his life.

But along comes the Creature from Jekyll Island. His name is the Federal Reserve. He's come to raise your cost of living. You thought you saved enough to live on for 15 years at least... now it's looking like 10 years. Or less.

The Creature Steals your Wealth

We are under constant pressure to earn more to keep up with inflating prices. As the cost of living increases, so does our need for more income to be supported. Any money that is stored as cash will loose it's buying power over time, just for not investing it.

Economists are alright with this concept, since they believe it discourages stuffing mattresses with cash and encourages people to invest. But either way, it's theft. The Creature from Jekyll Island is stealing from the buying power of our money!

What can we do about it?

We can take the advice in the book:

The only way to beat the creature is to teach more people about it and get the government to change the laws that require us to use the creature's fiat currency."

  • Teach more people about it
  • Get the government to change the laws
