Into the wild!

I have always felt drawn to horses, they have such an amazing energy and they are so beautiful to watch, especially when they are left to their own devices. I have never wanted to do any horse riding, it just never felt right to me and if there is one thing I have learnt in this life , it is that we need to follow our gut instinct more.

Truth be told I do not agree with using animals to make money. The way I see it, is that it just feeds into this dominant culture that has taken a hold on the world. There are ways in which we can work alongside others, but how can we every know how they feel if we can not ask them.

We are stepping further and further away from the wild, when we try to tame and coerce animals. Putting them in situations where they are forced to do as we want them to, taking away their ability to act on natural instinct because we no longer do it ourselves. I have seen the eyes of animals that have been trapped, both physically and mentally and it is heart breaking, their eyes are empty.

When you get to see an animal in the wild, or at least allowed to be free in the space that they inhibit, you get to really see them. Why some believe it is okay to force other beings, to do things, is beyond me. Why some have to project their lack of freedom on to them, to take away their wildness so that maybe they can feel more in control about their own lives, is so cruel.

Imagine living where being free is deemed the most important thing for all life.

We need the wilderness, we need to find those wild places within and make time to deep into them.

That beautiful horse that you see in the pictures above is Solas and I had the pleasure of her company for 2 months when I walked with her in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 3 years ago.
