The Decentralised Steem Blockchain Solves The Problem Of Social Media Censorship. Support Steem Now!

in #freedom6 years ago

Steem (along with its many websites such as steemit.com, d.tube and busy.org) offers a variety of benefits and while many come for the potential for being paid money for blogging and commenting - there is another important benefit... Steem is almost impossible to censor.

I have been writing on social media sites since the very beginning and have worked in the industry in technical roles too. I have seen first hand how sites such as tribe.net opened a space for an amazingly creative and enlightening sharing of information from around the world. I had never seen such a blending of people from different backgrounds sharing insights on so many useful topics, from natural healing methods, through to spiritual techniques and scientific understandings from beyond the mainstream. I could feel all along, though, that this would not last forever and that the power of the people on that site was considered a threat to those who intend to control and limit humanity's evolution for their own reasons. I was not surprised, then, to find out that eventually the site was sold to Cisco Systems - the same Cisco who was involved in providing technology used to run the Chinese governments 'execution wagons' that literally killed dissidents on the street.

It took no time at all for Cisco to destroy tribe.net - they employed almost no staff to maintain the site and definitely didn't improve it. This all coincided with the growth of Facebook - a site which initially looked to offer better features than Tribe, but ultimately which provided no meaningful way of having threads of conversations that could be referred back to. Gone were the epic threads that lasted years, exposing important information over time.. And instead we had short bursts of dopamine, vacuous and meaningless posts and little sense of the kind of real community that was to be found on Tribe.

Since then I have put years of work into posting on many controversial topics and have repeatedly seen my work be censored on Facebook and Google+ - without any explanation or even notification. Their 'sandboxing' technique essentially means that posters think that their posts are being seen by the world, but in fact they are only visible to themselves. Logging out and attempting to view the post reveals that no-one else can see it!

When you have seen this with your own eyes, you realise quickly that the control of the free flow of information on these sites is definitely NOT something that is 'in your best interests' and definitely IS following the covert policies of the corporations involved and their government controllers. This is not a 'conspiracy theory', I have recorded evidence of this going back years and can point you to the threads on the Youtube/Google forums, for example, where many people complained of the same thing for years and never got a single reply from Google.

With this in mind and with the recent 'sudden' total banning of Alex Jones from social media, I feel it is important to highlight that there is currently almost no chance of being fully censored on sites that run on the Steem blockchain! The blockchain is run by a consensus of members of the public who pay to run their own servers and so there is no centralised authority that is able to remove posts and edit content. If any censorship takes place at the blockchain level, those who run the servers will know and the offending 'editor' will be highlighted.

I say 'almost' no chance of being censored, because a) The websites that use Steem, such as steemit.com can and do remove content from THEIR domain if legal challenges are made to get them removed.. However, the content will remain on the steem blockchain anyway - meaning that it can be accessed by anyone who uses tools to view the Steem blockchain directly. Other sites, such as busy.org may not receive or respond to legal challenges in the same way as Steemit.com and so content may remain visible on there anyway. b) There is a tiny chance that the key servers in the Steem blockchain network could be taken over by 'bad actors' and censorship could take place that way. However, this would require either a major hacking effort or a lot of money being used to buy control of the top servers. This would also become exposed as people complain about it and the open source nature of the platform would mean that the censorship could be exposed in a transparent way.. So, essentially there is zero chance of being censored fully here.

Let's think about this for a moment.. You can use mainstream social networks for their convenience of having your friends and family already on there.. While they record from your microphones without your knowledge and use artificial intelligence to track your activity - with the intention of selling to you and passing on your data to 'unknowns'.. Where they will also remove your posts and even you from the platform if they want to - regardless of whether you really broke any of THEIR policies or not. Essentially, you can use these platforms and be a kind of 'inmate'. Or...

You could use a decentralised social platform that PAYS YOU to post and comment - with little to no chance of censorship or control..

Erm..

Do you really need to think about this choice for more than 1 second?

If humanity (you) desires beneficial change and freedom, we need to make every choice available to make that a reality in every way possible and it would be a significant step to shift to a social network that represents that beneficial change and freedom, such as Steem!

Wishing you well,

Thanks for writing this @ura-soul, a perfect piece for me to share around other social networks :) xo

PS: Hearing Boromir say 'better check yourself before you wreck yourself' made my day :-)

hehe - you are welcome - i did write this to be shared on other networks, yes; thanks for noticing :)

Very nice @ura-soul and you make me wish I had more hands so I could do more. Sending to my other social media. May they jump on the life boat that steemit is in our sea of criminality.

Thanks! Whatever you feel you can do is enough!

I call here home. The decentralized nature of the Steem blockchain allow people the chance to live their dreams. Two years and counting, we are yet to see a real rival,

Very good! It is only a matter of time and realisation before more join you!
