MEDICINE (5-minute Freewrite)

"You'll take your medicine, right now!" She thrust a ladle sized spoon at the man in the bed.

He flinched, and pulled his sheet up above his head. The spoon crashed into the clean linen and a splatter of castor oil and raspberry liquor soaked the sheet.

"Now look what you've made me do Mr. Lowery. Don't you care a thing about me?" She turned and walked out of the room.

He lowered the sheet and looked around the room. Not a person in sight. That was good. The window shone with bright daylight. That was good. The closet door was still ajar. And that was very bad.

He had been awake since yesterday morning, owing the night's lost sleep to the tearing, gnashing, growling sounds coming from that closet. His linens had been changed three times since. Soiled from nerves and fear of getting off the mattress.
