Surprisingly, Mr. Y remained in the country (I think to elude International Justice). He evaded the poor local judicial system maintaining a proper treatment to his neighbors and living a normal life. In the meantime, he was getting old, just like that mother was devastated and traumatized by what happened to her twins and, also, by the persecution of which her family was a victim, as happened with the others.

The case interested me when my journalistic career was starting. I always had it in mind. I become who carried out an exhaustive investigation, and it wasn't surprised me.

I just lacked the cooperation of one person: she; but I couldn't find her. Time ran, I knew that, finally, Mr. Y. was close at hand. But he was older. What if he got sick and died? What if he left the country and, with him, the opportunity to make our fight against impunity prevail?

When I was more restless and impatient, she appeared in the inbox of my email account. What would it be? A negative? Don't: she agreed to provide information and testify. The lady culminated her brief communication with a phrase, for me, epic: We are wasting time.

Twenty years (twenty more years...) have gone, but, finally, Mr. Y. is being prosecuted for his criminal omissions and all related acts of corruption, which caused the myiasis and death of 13 neonates, due to the contamination and proliferation of flies in birthing rooms and newborn care units.

Sorprendentemente, el Sr. Y permaneció en el país (creo que para eludir a la Justicia Internacional) y se le escabulló al debilitado sistema judicial local porque llevaba una vida normal, dando un trato cortés a sus vecinos. Mientras tanto, encanecía, al igual que aquella madre desolada y traumatizada por lo ocurrido a sus gemelos y, también, por la persecución de la que su familia fue víctima, al igual que ocurrió con las demás.

El caso me interesó cuando iniciaba mi carrera periodística, siempre lo tuve presente. Realmente no me sorprendió en demasía tener que ser yo quien llevara adelante una investigación exhaustiva, llegado el momento.

Solo me faltaba la cooperación de una persona: ella. Pero no la encontraba. Y corría el tiempo. Yo sabía que el Sr. Y. estaba al alcance de la mano, por fin, pero ya era mayor. ¿Qué tal si enfermaba y moría? ¿Qué si dejaba el país y desaparecía la oportunidad de hacer prevalecer nuestra lucha en contra de la impunidad?

Cuando más inquieta e impaciente estaba, ella apareció en el buzón de entrada de mi cuenta de correo electrónico. ¿Qué sería? ¿Una negativa? No; accedía a aportar información y testificar. La señora culminaba su breve comunicación con una frase, para mí, épica: No tenemos tiempo que perder.

Habían transcurrido 20 años (20 años más...), pero, finalmente, el Sr. Y. fue procesado por sus criminales omisiones y todos los actos de corrupción conexos, que ocasionaron la miasis y muerte de 13 neonatos, debido a la contaminación y proliferación de moscas en salas de parto y unidades de cuidado de recién nacidos.
