Day 207: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: banana

When we talk about banana. This tree or fruit reminds of so many things in our lives.. sadness, hardship, happiness and survival.

SURVIVAL/HARDSHIP

• When we were forced to move out in Tabon District due to insurgency problem, we have nothing to choose but live on top of the hill where there were plenty of banana tree.When my parents could not go down to the market, what we gonna eat is the green banana. We just steam or fry it then our day is already solved. We could already sleep with full stomach. We also sell its leaves in the market and buy rice. My mother also cook banana que to earn a living. We also use the leaves to pack our lunch when we go to school or wash our bunch of clothes in the mountain.

HAPPINESS

• The banana trunk reminds me of our funny memories in Tabon where there's river at the back of the house. When heavy rains come, the river is so clean and the current is so strong. What we do is get a banana trunk and make it like a boat. We really had so much fun with our friends. We even had a race whoever comes first at the other side of the river.

SADNESS

• I feel sad coz it reminds our hardship way back then where there is scarcity of food and money.

But inspite of these, we have so much things to thank for with banana tree.
