5 Minute Freewrite Day 479: Beacon

“…because the night is dark and full of horrors” –the woman clad in blood-red robes said at the end of her speech. Everyone around the bonfire was in silent awe because of the things she said, and the way she said it. It was a prophetic tale on hard times to come, of hardships and sacrifices, and of how despicable darkness was and the love all should have for the sun and its fire that destroys evil and keeps darkness away.

It was a message that resonated with everyone present, because even if they could see well in the dark, they recognized the additional danger that night brought with itself. That is why every late traveler set camping in this clearing, why so many stories were shared: to keep fear at bay.

But there was just one person, that while somewhat paying attention to the fierce and dramatic speech, wasn’t either impressed of scared, that elf just sat on a tall branch, watching the stars twinkle.

But after a small laugh escaped her lips, and a pissed off Red Priestess demanded her to come down and face her, she put on a slightly more serious mood while talking.

You talk about fear of night and shadows, you talk about devotion to the goodness of sun and fire, but the world isn’t so black and white, you see… -and then she started taking out her long gloves, showing her burnt arms and hands-. From apparent warmth we can burn, and if we know where to look, we can find a beacon of hope everywhere… -she said while pointing at the full moon that just came out from behind the clouds.
