Freewrite Prompt: Freedom

Amelia thought she was on the right track. Before this she resented many things in her life: her biological parents' divorce, her mom remarried, they left the children at home to live their luxury life, her crush on her teacher got crushed....

She knew the only way she could get away was be away from this place, to be away from her family even. She had enough of people looking at her sexy mom who married a much older but richer man. She had enough of them installing CCTV to check on their activities at home, she had enough of her mom tagging her in their family vacation and her friends all asking her about it, she had enough of being her brother's keeper but still got scolding for it, she also had enough of her stepdad beating up her brother.

For her, she had learnt to play their game, to put up a front to please them, to do what they want her to do, "abide" by their rules to show that they are a happy family in front of cameras. She sympathized with her younger brother who still get beaten up but she couldn't care too much about him. She sometimes gets the "collateral damage" of her brother being caught using the MacBook till late night and she gets reprimanded for not "reporting" him in. "Poor guy and yet I am not going to be a victim from his doings," she thought.

Her goal is the freedom she can have after she goes off to study abroad. Now, everything was to work towards that goal, including studying really hard to score well, winning some talent competiton, just to be sent off to her dream university, far far away from her family.

"When I get into the University of Boston, I will have true freedom. I shall endure, I can do it, just 2 more years," Amelia always tells herself that.

She looked more and more closed up each day. She worked her butt off and her efforts did paid off. Her mom doesn't worry about her at all and was instead quite proud of her.

When she finally had gone off to university, she felt she was breathing for the very first time, away from the family's troubles. She could do anything she likes at any time. But why is she not totally feeling FREE? She has been chasing a "fake" freedom all this while? She thought freedom is being herself, without being monitored, without having to ask permission. Looks like it is not. In fact, she felt she has some deeper longing of wanting to be loved genuinely actually. Now she realized it is not freedom she was craving for, but love and the sense of belonging.
