In the middle of the meeting, she felt nauseous. She tried to control but then the dizziness made it worse. Excusing herself, she rushed to the washroom and vomited.

After a few gags, she cleaned up herself and the basin, then she looked into the mirror. She could not help but to suspect she was pregnant.

It was that night, I was drunk, then the next morning I woke up with my boss at my side, we were both naked.

Somehow, a gush of anger and sense of being cheated filled her.

He told me it was just a casual meet up to get acquainted with new employee. What a mistake! He must have given me some pill to knock me off.

At that time, Sabrina, her close colleague, came in to the rescue, holding a first-aid kit. "Are you alright?" she asked while passing her some pills. "Do you need this, for your stomach?" she added.

She knew she did not need those. She needed a pregnancy test kit. She did not even bother returning to the meeting lest she screamed at her boss or ended up crying.

Heading to pharmacy, her mind was jumbled up with confusion and fear. She bought one set of pregnancy test kit and then rushed home. Double lines. Positive.

Without second thought, she visited a clinic nearby to get confirmation.

"Congratulation Miss Anna, you are 12 weeks pregnant. And a healthy heart beat, you can see it here," the gynae happily announced while pointing to the screen, showing the baby's heart beat.

Her world crumbled. How was she going to face the future? She always advised the young not to get pregnant out of marriage. And... Now she had a baby without husband! Besides, she was an untiring advocate of anti-abortion.

Before thinking of confronting her boss, she remembered her mum, one whom she had left behind 8 years ago. Back then, she wanted city life desperately. Moreover, she could not stand communicating with her mum who was deaf.

There she was, standing right in front of her childhood wooden house. Everything looked the same, except it was getting much older, one part of the roof was not there, probably being blown away by strong wind. The air at the village was as clean as she could recall. Sweet and breezy.

Then she saw an old lady walked out of the entrance. Her hair was 100% white, eventhough her features were lined with wrinkles, she remained beautiful.

"Mum," Anna called out.

Anna told her mum everything about the incident and her baby with the minimal hand-sign language she could thought of. There was a little dismay on the old lady's face, but there was no disapproval of Anna's intention to keep the baby.

Later at night, while Anna could not sleep due to hot weather and not used to living in a house without air-conditioning, plus mosquitoes partying around with their new-found blood, Anna decided to look around the house to reminisce her memories. Then she found her mum still awake. What is she doing at 2am?

She saw the old lady, trying her best, with her poor eye-sight, sewing some tiny clothes and pants. It was all still the same. Same caring mother, same deafness, same old sewing machine, same sewing kit. Anna knew her baby would be dearly loved by his or her grandmother.

I took longer than 5 minutes to write this story, being drifted away from the shore to the sea with my thoughts.

Hope you enjoy reading! Thank you!

And it's a pleasure to read your FreeWrite even if it is a little bit sad 😊❤️

Don't know why always end up sad although I am a generally happy person. Maybe last time when I was a pastor, I had come across too many varieties of problem in other's life. Lol

I guess the FreeWrite does that
Not overthinking, just writing because you only have 5 minutes...
It's a good story never the less 😊

WOW this is so beautiful! My heart ached when I read about her mom being up at 2am!

That is the heart of a mother. She will be willing to do anything for the children. You are one awesome mom!
