You are the one who is in complete control. You are the one who will be defeating him.

He is the one who needs to be afraid. He is the one who would do best to run away.

She is the one who is taking the notes. She is the one holding the pencil.

They are the ones who are nodding and whispering. They are the ones who smile insincerely.

We are the ones who are climbing out of the ring. We are the ones who are strolling calmly away.

I am the one who tells the stories. I am the one who makes sense of it all.

A long day ended at 5pm. All the field workers came in for water and a meal. The tractors pulled in, pulling trailers filled with dozens of workers. The grits were hot. The pork was hot. The beans were hot. The chicken salad was cold. The pickles were cold. The water was cold. The lettuce was absent. The apples were absent. But most of all, the dates were absent.

"Where are the dates?" asked the man who called himself "The Farmer" but who was really just a man who owned things.

The workers-

Otherwise, you are going to sit there and try and try and try. This will only get in the way.
You get in your own way. You sit there and you try, but you cannot succeed in this world if you try. You can only succeed if you don't try. I know. It's awful. No one ever feels fulfilled. They only accomplish what they don't set out to accomplish. It's awful. Awful. Awful.

I wish it could be any other way. I wish you could work hard at something for years, and then when you got what you wanted, you could feel a sense of fulfillment. But no, only when you've given up on something does it come to you. And that's when you feel disheartened and unfulfilled. It is only by looking to the past that we can find joy. Never in the present. We can look back and see the person that we were and remember how much that person wanted the thing we finally got. We can then imagine that we are still that person and celebrate that that person got what they wanted. In this way we can approximate a feeling of accomplishment and joy. We feel joy when we are young, because we have not yet decided for sure to pursue a particular thing.

What what what what what what.

What do we do next? Why does it always seems so hard? Why? Why is the uncertainty of knowing if we are who we are get in the way of just being who we are? Why are we and who are we and where are we and what are we?

And I wish I wish I wish we could be the people we know we are.

Floating on the air currents are the jellyfish of the air. You call them clouds.

He calls them clouds.
She calls them clouds.
They call them clouds.
I call them clouds.
We call them clouds.

But they are, in fact, the jellyfish of the air. They like the currents because they're lazy.

There's no such thing as lazy. If you're tired, you're tired. It's a pity, maybe, but it's not the end of the world. There's nothing to be done about it. There's only. SLEEP.

But sometimes that doesn't work, but just because you sat down doesn't mean you're lazy. It just means... that you felt a need to sit down. What is it to be lazy, then? Don't we all make choices about about about..

Oh no. Stina's running into a concept she doesn't quite get in Duo Lingo.

What is it, darling? Can I help? I don't speak Spanish, but maybe if you describe the problem to me, you'll figure it out by describing it. I'll ask now.

Sort:

Trippy stuff. I love it. Also want to know where the dates went.

They became Tinder!
Bada-bing... Get it? 'cause tinder is a dating app?

Why is the uncertainty of knowing if we are who we are get in the way of just being who we are?

That blasted uncertainty. Even two percent of uncertainty is annoyingly unsatisfying. I want absolutes, but they just don't exist. The healthy thing is to let the two percent go, and accept the uncertainty. But we certainly can't be healthy and accepting all the time. Alright, so maybe there is some certainty in uncertain-ness. There, I feel better now. :)

Can't we? I TRY though.

Nice writing! Your post reminded me of Mark Manson's book "The subtle art of not giving a fuck" most especially the chapter " Don't try"

Thanks! I haven't read it, but that's a great title.

I hope Mark isn't related to Charlie, but is related to Marilyn.
