5 Minute Freewrite Thursday Prompt : small talk

Right up there near the top of the "Ï can't stand it when my partner does that" list is the nerve-wracking, insulting; and oh-so-irritating habit of putting your partner on the spot. Or, put another way, this means forcing your partner to make an instant decision at an awkward moment, when if he were to choose a certain answer, it would make him look bad.

Example :
For weeks, you've been looking forward to a quiet weekend and a chance to catch up on some home projects. Your partner, however, is in a social mood and rejoices at the thought of getting together.

Here's where it gets tricky. Your partner pulls the phone away from his ear and says to you, "Honey, I'm so excited. It's Paul. We're all going to get together this weekend. Doesn't that sound great?" Paul, on the other end of the line, can hear everything his saying and is now anxiously awaiting your response.

If ever there was an uncomfortable moment, this is it. What are you supposed to do? In all honestly, you really don't want to get together with Paul. However, he's a really good friend and you haven't seen him and his family for a couple of weeks. It would be great to catch up with some small talk amongst good friends.

But you're on the spot. You don't even have a moment to reflect on your priorities or on how much time you need this weekend to get your other things done. At that point, the best you can do is balance your options the best you can and try to remember that this is just the small stuff. Whatever the decision maybe will still be alright.

Philosophically, let's try not to put each other on the spot. It just isn't fair.

Many thanks to @mariannewest and @freewritehouse for bringing me along in this magnificent journey. Through them, I have found back my desires to write, be it fiction, freewrite, true or make-belief. I have evolved myself into more than just a reader. Unlike in the past, where I would stick my nose into a book and be amazed with the creations of others, now I'm able to share my own creations to the world.

My first freewrite prompt was : Time to move on in July 2018. Since then, I've never looked back. Just like the song Let It Go by Idina Menzel, when one start to write, the words just keeps flowing out continuously.
