Late

When it rains, it pours. It was one of those days, but she had to finish this meeting before she stepped out. She knew she was going to be struck in traffic. But she just couldn't make herself leave. Not yet.

"So what do you think guys?" she asked her team.

They were siting on tables, chairs and even the floor. She had a big team. 33. But it was too late to book the conference room, so they were huddled in her office. Not bad for someone who had been brought on the poor side of town. She had to hustle, she had to settle sometimes, and she had to crush a few. But it is what it is, and she didn't get too hung up over it.

"As you know we have a great product. But that alone doesn't cut it! People out there need to know it is a great product. You believing in it, isn't enough. The people out there, they need to believe it too. So, I am going to break you guys up in teams. And you have the weekend to figure it out."

She could tell inwardly they were rolling their eyes. For them weekend means party. But there's no party when there's no money, and there's no money when there's no sales. She allowed them their self pity for a bit as she stretched out her leg. She needed to set an appointment to wax soon. She admired her red shoes. She should get another pair. Maybe the green.

The phone rang and she tucked her leg back under the table as she looked at the screen. It was her man. They were supposed to meet for dinner. Normally at work, she wouldn't pick up and he would then text her if it was important. They had an understanding. Right now though, technically, she was supposed to be in her car,on her way. She picked up.

"Hey baby, traffic seems pretty rough with the rain. All good with you?"

"All good. I am on my way!!" she said convincingly. She didn't address him with endearments. Just Dave. And she wouldn't mind it if he didn't either. Names were given for a reason. Might as well use them.

"OK baby, drive safe. I will get us some wine to celebrate your promotion. I am almost there."

"I will be right there Dave. Stepping on it... with care and caution of course. Love you." He kind of expected that at the end of their conversations. And she didn't mind it too much. He got her compared to the rest. He allowed her to be her.

She hung up and she could see in their eyes, the hope she would call it a night as she was "on her way"

"So, guys, I have to leave in 10 minutes, I don't want to be late. So, any suggestions on how you want to be grouped?"

When @mariannewest said "late" would be the prompt, she didn't know she was setting me up to be super late. Hahaha.... And I was thinking, darn it!! If this was for the 200 Day Party, I would have cried all the way through my household chores with my tail between my legs. But it's not, so phew and it's a good reminder not to wait for the last hour to do it. Oh, what's the 200 Day Party you ask? I believe invitations are still available.
