FreeWrite: The King's Qing

Smooth As Silk

Qing ran her fingers over the dresses hanging in the closet. She understood what it meant when one said Smooth As Silk. She had never touched one before, only admired it from a far. Today, she had the opportunity to enter her Mistress' room. She was told to wait there for her.

Qing looked around. It was a beautiful room, rich with tapestry and paintings from the great painters of the century. . Her Mistress walked in and she quickly closed the closet door and looked down. It was a sign of respect. You never looked them in the eye.

Her mistress walked over to her chair, and Qing wasn't sure if she had seen her.

"Come here girl"

Qing walked up to her, head still bowed.

"Did you like any of those dresses?"

Qing nodded.

"Which one's your favourite?"

"The red one Mistress."

Her mistress let out a laugh that scared her a little. She then stopped laughing abruptly and reached out to touch Qing's hair.

"Do you know why you are here?"

Qing shook her head.

"You know, I was once like you. Young, beautiful and the world was my oyster.....Come closer."

Qing, inched as close as she could until she could smell the mint tea on her Mistress' breath.

She then felt her Mistress' lips on her ears as she whispered something so vile and shocking, Qing couldn't move, and prayed the earth would swallow her whole.

"The King wants a son. You are his chosen one."
