State of Emergency
We are going to be in a State of emergency soon if we are not entering the state of awareness soon.
We are living like everything is fine.
And it is not. Nothing is fine and everything is fine - on of those new age thingies.
All is well. But is it? Can we continue closing our eyes and are sad when we see the pictures of sea life all entangled in plastic and dying? We are sad - and then, we go and buy that item wrapped in plastic.
I am as guilty as the next person. Sometimes, we don't think. Oh, these bars are such a good idea for a snack on the go. BUT
then we have another wrapper to throw away. And maybe that wrapper doesn't end up in the trash.
Every day - when school is in session, about 15 minutes before the end of the school day, an ice cream truck pulls up across the street from my house. It must be just the legal distance from the doors of the school.
And every day, parents are buying sweets for their kids, and kids are buying sweets for themselves.
Kids who are already way big for their age. And we wonder that so many have type 2 diabetes. that is a disease that is supposed to not be a thing for young people. but it is. And my little town has the honor of over half of the kids living in town are obese.
That my friends, is a state of emergency by itself and I don't understand why the parents are not fighting for the health of their children.
Oh, and the wrappers - they often end up in my garden.

Great Freewrite! I'm a big fan of recycling. We try our best to lessen our trash. I watched a movie Super Troopers 2 in which the Canadians were calling the Americans fat. It was used as an insult/joke the entire way through the movie. It's sad we are known for this trait. You are so right we are in a state of emergency!!

Yes, there is way to much of the toxic disposable waste to be had. We all should think prior to purchasing. Nice awareness post.
Thank you - that pops so often into my head and there are days when I feel so hopeless... But I try...
I know. On rare occasions we purchase six packs I cut the plastic holders up small so they don't get to trap wildlife if they end up somewhere in the garbage journey to endanger animals and turtles.
