Alice in Dreamland (Five minutes freewrite)

in #freewrite6 years ago (edited)

The freakin' rabbit was at it again – running in circles like a maniac, yelling 'it's late, it's late'.
'Well, tough luck. There ain't no fucking exit, no bloody hole, nothing'.
Alice had been searching for a door for hours or what seemed like hours. Anyway, they were stuck.
'I wonder how the Dodo bird managed to get out?'
For she distinctly remembered seeing the Dodo earlier – with a big red head, much too big for its small yellow body. She'd even asked the stupid bird what day it was, but the Dodo did not stop to talk to her.
'It must have flown away – that's how it got away'.
Very probably there was a hole in the ceiling, she thought, but she felt the effort of moving her head enough to look up and see was really not worth it.
She had been lying on the floor for a long time. The last thing Alice remembered was feeling very sick at the table, when they were all having tea. She, the crazy dude with the hat and his weird friends. Funny guys, all cracking jokes, all crack...
Alice had been desperate to find the Hatter as she was so desperately thirsty. She did not like dealing with strangers, but she didn't have a choice. Usually, it was Peter who took care of business. He knew the right people and they never lacked for anything. But now money were tight and Peter often came back empty-handed. They downed some beers or wine or whatever just to get to sleep and forget their cravings.
Alice had no money on her, but she'd been told the man was quite reasonable and loved helping out young girls like her. Peter could not go, as he owed money to the guy, but surely he won't refuse her.
It felt weird to sit down with those guys looking funny at her, but then the Hatter brought the good stuff and they all shared, like old friends. She had an extra dose, as the men did not seem to mind and she'd gone without for two days.
Then she woke up in this room and she felt so small and she could hardly get up. But she had to, because she could see the white napkin on the table. It must be, she was sure of it.... and it was, the Hatter had been kind enough to leave her a little treat, with a scrap of paper beside it: 'Eat me'.

'I wonder when they'll be back?'
Surely they must come back somehow. Even the bloody rabbit seemed to have found his way out as it was gone... she looked around carefully – yes, gone!
Maybe the Dodo bird will come back... Or the Cat – she remembered a Cat with a big head and a big smile.
She tried to make herself a bit presentable, but her red dress was torn and stained... She must have been pretty sick as she distinctly remembered the dress had been clean that morning, she'd taken it straight from the dryer...
Maybe none of this was real, maybe she could try saying that out loud and wake up, home, in bed, with Peter beside her....
'That's a bloody trick in a story...!'
Much much later, after she had taken the rest of her treat she finally heard a noise, like a door being unlocked and the mirror moved to reveal a hidden passage. The Hatter was back, thank God! Walking behind him a fat guy with glasses and black suspenders – and a funny look in his eyes... she knew that look... and she knew the guy, too, she'd seen him with Peter talking at the corner of the street.
The Hatter put a small round pill in her hand and went out of the room, leaving her alone with the fat guy.
'You're not real, you're not real', she started to cry, but the charm did not work. The red queen in the ragged dress was staring at her from the mirror.

Thank you, @mariannewest! I will give it a try!

This is such a terribly and terrifically twisted story! You wove it perfectly, making me feel as upside down and confused as poor Alice while she slips from her reality due to the drugs. To be sold off like she was...shivers

Sorry, I'm beyond late with this prompt.
