Food - the fuel for life

in #freewrite5 years ago

Life works on just 2 things, oxygen and food. People do all sorts of good and bad things to earn money which can buy them food. While some people are rich to buy all the tastiest food they have ever heard of, some people live on minimals that can keep their tummy filled. It is very sad that around 10% or more of India's population still sleeps hungry (rough estimate).

The condition was severe until few years ago when Indian government launched the much famed 'integrated child development scheme's wherein every child under the age group of 0-6 and every pregnant or lactating mother was liable for free nutritious food that would be supplied to them at the government designated centres absolutely free of cost. The same government has also launched the free education for all scheme, wherein students get free basic education at government run schools.

That was a good move by the government and it definitely improved the condition of the underprivileged and reduced the statistics of death due to malnourishment.

While the country has been praising this awesome decision made by the government few years ago, a recent incident made us pity the plight of the people who are lawfully entitled to this facility.

Few days back, a 3 year old boy was brutally scalded by a maid at the government run nursery for asking his mother's share of food. The boy's mother, 6 month pregnant, was also entitled for the free nutritious food and hence as usual the boy demanded that the maid fill the utensils with his mother's share also. The annoyed maid couldn't take it and poured the hot food on the child's back burning him heartlessly. The boy's mother took him to the hospital and later lodged a complaint and got the maid arrested for the henious crime she had committed.
