Part 13

Having killed the guards Tom waited on spot for James to join him. It didn’t take long for him to come running from across the street and as soon as he reached Tom, they both went running through the streets toward the other side. They passed a table set out in the open, with food on it still, and grapevine talk from inside the house. They must’ve wanted to enjoy a meal outside in the open, but sought cover after they heard the shots. The muttering stopped when Tom and James approached, and stopped right by their door to plan their next move. The entrance to the palace was visible from right around the corner.

Tom leaned round the corner to make sure it was clear on the entrance side, and surely enough, there were three bodies on the floor. He looked over at James and smiled. Not even a second later, James smiled back.

“Three dead, two to go.” Tom lowered his look at James’ uniform, still a smirk on his face. “Pretend we’re one of them and we secured the situation on the other side?”

At that point they weren’t planning on how to kill the guards and survive. They weren’t worried about failing. It was two guards against the two of them. No. At that point they were planning how to have the most fun possible.

“Sounds too basic.” James thought about the idea for a second, came up with a viable scenario and nodded. “Let’s pretend one of the dead guys is still alive and we’re trying to help.” They both laughed and then went running toward the palace entrance. As they were nearing the building, they noticed one of the guards was actually still conscious, lying in a pool of his own blood, gasping for air. A perfect situation for their plan. It turned out it was Gordon.

They ran up to him and James hurried to put pressure on the wound in his abdomen. In the meantime, Tom made sure to pick up ammo from the two other dead bodies and swap out both their weapons for the already loaded ones. They made sure to be very loud when telling Gordon it was all going to be okay. They kept on cheering him up and making sure he stayed conscious until suddenly one of the guard’s head appeared from around the corner on their left. He wanted to run to them first thing, but stopped half-step, looked back at his colleague, and asked: “Clear?”

“Yeah,” Tom made sure to sound a bit scared, but not too much – after all, he wanted to reassure him it was safe. “We shot three guys over on the right side.”

The guard waved his hand to his friend and they both came over to have a look at Gordon. He was in bad shape, but could likely make it if they tended his wound as fast as possible.

“The others?” One of the two hesitantly asked.

“Didn’t make it.” Tom shook his head. “Can you two get some cloth so we get him patched up?” He crouched down next to James immediately after finishing the sentence to appear as if he was busy helping.

“On it!” He then slapped the other guard on the shoulder and pointed inside the palace.

As soon as they went running upstairs, though, Tom and James pulled out their pistols and shot them straight in the back of their heads simultaneously. They dropped dead on spot, and slid down the couple of stairs that they managed to take. James then looked around and pointed his gun at Gordon.

“Sorry, mate. You didn’t quite make it.” Gordon wanted to obstruct, but all he could muster was a couple bubbles of blood down the side of his mouth before he was eased of his misery.

@svashta nice one.very nice your constrained writing contest

Thanks! ^^

Chaos! I thought that was called life. ;-)

Anyway, I'm bringing today's prompt and it reminds me of the movie Multiplicity where a guy makes a copy of himself to keep up. Then the copies start making copies: "He's special, all right. - We made a copy from Two. Sometimes a copy from a copy is not quite as sharp as the original."

Great movie! Anyway, today's prompt has to do with the word copy: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-266-5-minute-freewrite-thursday-prompt-copy. Join us at the @FreeWriteHouse.

Hmm. that actually sounds very much like a movie I'd like love!
I'll try and find the time tomorrow to watch it. Thanks for the recommendation! And the prompt, of course! :D
