Chapter 10
They couldn't quite see anything other than wasteland until the train came to a near complete stop. With the last of the train's speed they passed a couple of guards in black uniforms to the right of the train, then finally stopped alongside a huge building on the same side. As soon as they stopped Tom dropped down on the floor and checked both sides of the train. There was nothing on their left so he hurried across and called for James to join him.
They hid behind the train's wheels and tried to gather as much information about the place. They also needed to rest and ease their back pain before an opportunity arose for them to make a run for it. They could hear the guards yelling at the workers on the other side, and the squeaking of iron when they were opening the side of the wagons. The earth shook when the ore finally broke loose, and then it was the same thing again. The squealing of wheels and the sound of rock clashing against metal told them the roles were much the same to those back at the mine. Some workers were loading the wheelbarrows, the others taking the wheelbarrows from and to the site. They tried their best to catch a glimpse of the workers' uniforms to see if they could fit in and sneak their way amongst them.
