Besides the agricultural, construction, Paper, fuel and wood work industries, the textile industry also greatly contributes to deforestation and there have been a lot of calls worldwide for the textile industry to stop the destruction of protected tree species. While the textile industry is accelerating deforestation, it’s important to know that this industry is one of the highest water consuming industries and a great promoter of water pollution. Huge quantity of fresh water are used for the dyeing and finishing process for all of our garments and cotton farming also requires a lot of water. Using much water means sending out much polluted water. In most of the countries in which garments are produced, untreated toxic wastewaters from textiles factories are dumped directly into the rivers and this is severely threatening aquatic life and the health of millions of people living along the banks of the rivers.

@ecodesigns wants you to check the carbon footprint of your fabric before purchasing it.

@ecodesigns wants you to be aware of the environmental impact of the textile industry so that you can make great choices when purchasing textile products

@ecodesigns wants you to reduce the amount of textile waste you produce, upcycle your old/unwanted clothes, donate or sell your old/unwanted clothes and recycle your old/unwanted clothes.

#Call2Action

We can do more but we lack materials and machines to increase our textile recycling and women empowerment project. We have 11 trainees and 02 Training Directors but have just 06 machines which are not enough for the 13 young girls who are striving to get empowered as well as clean-up the world. It is for this reason that @ecodesigns is striving to raise funds to purchase 7 machines so that we can double our productivity and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our textile recycling and fashion designing training.
