Surthrival Trailer Mark 1 Update 21

Good Evening Y'all

Tonight I cut my steel in preparation for welding to create the solar panel frame for the top of the trailer.

The first thing I wanted to do was lay out the panels on a flat surface to verify my dimensions.

I measured the width of the panels to be 79.5"

The length of the panels is 157"

I then verified I would have enough width on the roof of the trailer. I'll be in good shape with some room to spare with a total width of the trailer at 83.25"

I climbed a ladder to check how much stand off I will need to clear the roof vent. I wish to keep the roof vent and allow it to open slightly. I plan to create a mount that will hold the roof panels 5" off the roof of the trailer.

I laid the panels on a flat part of my yard and lined my 1" square tube steel up against the panels to sanity check myself again.

I marked the 2 long sections of square tube to be cut at 157"

I began cutting with my metal blade for my jigsaw, but I caught a portion of the square tube which ended up breaking my only metal blade.

I resorted to cutting all the pieces with my hacksaw.

I cut these shorter sections to 77". I used the first one I cut to be the template for the 3 other pieces that were cut. I cut two pieces of 1"x1" angle to the same width to sit back to back in the center of the frame.

Here is the view of the frame laid out over top of the panels.

I loaded the steel and 4 of the pallets in the back of my truck to be welded tomorrow.
