Preparing For Cape Coast Outreach, Acquisition of New Instruments

It is a great privilege and a wonderful news that today some of the leaders of @bettervision get to travel to Cape Coast, a beautiful oceanic town at the southern part of Ghana to undergo an outreach for some communities. Unfortunately I, @nattybongo have more pressing issues to attend to in Kumasi, Ashanti Region with @mcsamm for another health screening exercise, hence would not be able to attend this occasion irrespective of that we have absolute trust in our representatives to get everything done well and accordingly and to give us the necessary report to update the community.

At this later part of the year lots of focus is on World Sight Day celebration and Optometry Day Celebration which will be on … and … respectively, it thus incumbent on us as leaders to raise enough funds to help organize more outreaches during those times to reach as many as we can and help as many as we can. Lots of Ocular pathologies are claiming the visions of innocent lives and it’s no fault of theirs, some never had the opportunity to encounter an eye care practitioner whiles some also never had the funds enough to visit the eye clinic for appropriate treatment when they noticed symptoms of diseases, they decided to treat themselves with local medications and end up damaging and worsening their already deteriorating vision.

Instruments acquired through our patrons and benefactors for the outreach

We as a team has therefore made it our priority to adopt opportunistic screening, when we say opportunistic screening it simply means we thoroughly examine all patients that we come across just to be sure we are leaving the patient in a perfectly healthy state and that no hidden condition is stealing his or her vision gradually, this is most common with pathologies such as Macular Degeneration and the deadly Glaucoma (This will be treated as topic later on). It is going to be a month of saving eye sight and we are glad that we have a beautiful community as steemit backing us in the process. God bless you all.

What is @bettervision about?

@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.

To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.

To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks

To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.

To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.

Our greatest gratitude goes to @fundition @surfyogi @girlsfoundation @bleepcoin @ackza and @wafrica for helping to make the aims and objectives of @bettervision a reality.
