"Ithaqa" Fundition Update #20 - Masterclass Keeping Me Productive

I've been getting into a good rhythm this week where I wake up, I watch an episode of Neil Gaiman's Masterclass on writing, apply the prescribed writing exercises to Ithaqa, and then write until personal obligations force me to go out and do errands.

Neil Gaiman is one of the great inspirations in my life, and "sitting" with him in his personal library, listening to him talk about storytelling actually gets me choked up on a daily basis. It's a beautiful opportunity I've had to go through this course, and I couldn't recommend it enough to any storyteller.

The exercises have helped me hone important throughlines in the comic, and have really helped me chip away at the writer's paralysis I was feeling last week. Writer's paralysis being different from writer's block in that there are several things I know I need to do/want to do, but feeling too overwhelmed to just sit down and start.

The key to writing is no great big secret, you just sit in the chair and set a timer, and that amount of time is going to be spent in that chair doing nothing but write - or staring at a blank screen. The Masterclass has helped me get motivated to just sit down and do that.
