It’s Going to be a Looooooong Day
How I’ll be spending my Saturday at the shop. Pricing up almost 400 different random Funko Pops for the floor. We have bought so many small collections the past couple of weeks that it’s just been piling up. Time to tackle it and take the bull by the horns.
Some of these are commons that we will sell for $12, while some will fetch over $300. Pricing these will be time consuming and irritating. Funko Pops are extremely volatile in price. Once they retire or “vault” a piece, interest grows...along with the price. A piece that is $12 today can be $50 next week. Quite nutty I must say!!!
With almost 3500 different Pops on our sales floor, sometimes something gets hot overnight. Plenty of tunes a customer comes in and snags s piece that we have priced for one price just to see it’s shot to the moon in an instant. It’s impossible to stay up on 3500 highly Volatile Pop prices so sometimes, customers get killer deals.
Example...last week a customer came in to buy our Metallic Deadpool which was priced about 2 weeks earlier at $365. Once he paid and left, a quick search revealed it was averaging between $500-550!! Eh...happens...
Anyway, Who here owns some Funko Pops?!? Show me your pieces!!!

I'd be more into the Pops if they didn't take up so dang much space, but if I can't make room to display it, I can't put it up in my office. :)

I only own 1... but I’ve been browsing them with an eye toward sprinkling more around as decor rather than being a serious collector of them.
Do you see Funko sustaining long term or going the way of Beanie babies? I do think their designs and licenses give a lot of staying power, but they just seem so over saturated right now...
In my honest opinion, I don’t think it will go the way of Beanie Babies. Those were a stuffed giraffe named Albert. These are licensed characters. Batman. Spider-Man. Death Vader. I’ll sell that crap forever.
Where I do think it hurts them is that there is so much. Such an abundance of them and it will get to the point of oversaturation. Collectors are also fickle and shit is cyclical. They will be onto the next hot thing at some point. So I think there will be a drop off at some point. Those paying the insane high prices...those are the folks that will get burned.

That's awesome. I keep seeing how Funko pops are super popular at Comic Con. I've always wanted a collection but never got around to spending the money.
Yeah it can be quite costly. It’s pretty insane and the fan base are highly motivated and rabid!!! Lol
@blewitt exactly this. I was subconsciously comparing them to Beanie Babies, but came to the same conclusion as you. Funkos are major characters (and many minor ones too) of big name brands. They cross all franchises too, but have that iconic shape. I bet these will be popular until my kids are grown up. As for price, some cheap old Star Wars toys go for hundreds and thousands.
Exactly. I have this conversation pretty much weekly at my shop with customers and haters. No matter what, I’ll sell Batman & Spider-Man crap forever. There will always be a market for the strong licenses.
I mean, I'm pretty sure you know I own some. But, it's a lot of effort for me to drag them all outside to take a nice group shot, lol. I'll do it eventually though.
Plus, I haven't been able to pick up any new ones in awhile now so everything I have has already been posted at some point on here. Booooooo.
