I would say do it as soon as bitcoin starts to spike. Steem will follow about 2 weeks to 2 months later, in which case you can sell 20% of your steem and buy it back later when it drops to at least 50% of the highest.
Make sure to make a post when you'll start doing it

A steemian never able sell it at 6 usd per steem becoz of greed and/or more expectations.
At the end, he ended up selling at 1.2 usd and it is not by choice rather it is by force.
