[VR Review] The Only Good Virtual Boy Games, Part 12: Teleroboxer

A boxing game might not seem like a good fit for a VR system with no motion tracking whatsoever. But in fact, the way Teleroboxer has been implemented changed my mind. It makes good use of the 3D effect for the bodies of the robot opponents (which are made from different sprites at different depths), and especially their fists coming at you.

You'll feel tempted to physically dodge now and again. It really feels like you're being hit. And the classic, tried and true gameplay is copied straight over from Punchout, Super Punchout and the rest of the games in that series. (I believe there was an installment on the Wii?)

But that is essentially the entirety of what you're getting here. The depth (har har) of the game does not exceed what was found in NES punchout. It's just got better graphics, red and black color scheme notwithstanding. Still, it's one of the more convincing games for the platform in terms of selling its unique capabilities.

I am not a fan of boxing games, but recognize quality when I see it. Teleroboxer is way up there. A worthy VR implementation of Punchout, a solid game for the VB library and a solid game on its own merits, I give it an 8/10.

I have not played almost box game, but after a rage it does not hurt to play a little box and imagine the face of that person that makes you take rage to desesterar a bit I in my case would put or imagine the face of mature to discharge all that anger I feel for him.

lol at some point the game made me laugh. Especially when you kicked the oponent’s ass and the way he was destroyed and got rid off was funny. The game seems solid and fun though.

That wasn't me playing but ok.

I'm not really into boxing games either, but Teleroboxer was one of my favorites for the VirtualBoy. It's very well executed for a boxing game and the gameplay just feels right. On the VB the punches were controlled by the trigger buttons and each d pad (left and right) was used for its corresponding fist. Pretty well thought out controls.

I was always a big fan of River City Ransom, not sure if you're familiar? It was a beat'em up with a touch of RPG. Anyway, I always thought a VR beat'em up game would be great in the vein of Teleroboxer. Just imagine running up to a guy and then having a similar fight like in Teleroboxer. I think it could be great!

Yeah, I loved RCR. The art style in particular, but the humor as well. BARF!

The first person beatemup gameplay you describe was done in the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. It was indeed pretty unique and fun.

Yes! Their expressions getting hit was one of the funniest things to me. That and throwing some object like a rock from one end of the screen to the other and landing a direct hit on a guy in the noggin.

I love 🤓😍😘 boxing games, any thing in the range of mortal combat. Sad, people dont play that much of it here, guys here are PES and FIFA addicted. Also GTA VC and some mission game.

I had thought the graphic sucked, but it only got better than before.

mmm ... first let me apologize for not being able to tell you yesterday why the internet smells for 24 hours I would give it a 7 since like you, I am not a fan of boxing video games besides you mentioned that it was in 3D , that is something that intrigues me, I would like to play it also is that I am curious to play video games of this kind.

Ready to play the game.
Should have multiplayer options.
