Game Review - bit Dungeon

Bit Dungeon is a game that takes the simple dungeon crawling of classic games like Legend of Zelda, and add some action rpg inspired looting with some gear mechanics thrown in, and what you get is a nice, little game that you can play during a lunch break.

At the heart, you go through different rooms, but you must clear the rooms of the main critters that first inhabit the room. These rooms may have a small chance it can spawn a mini-boss that can drop decent equipment for your character along with containers that you can break to get either equipment or potion drops for health and mana. Once the room is clear a key is dropped, and you can decide the next locked room you want to visit.

I highly encourage to visit all the rooms in a single floor as you possibly can since you will have more chances to get loot. You may need to revisit rooms, but you do not need to kill the ghosts spirits and rats though they will likely drop potions; in fact, you can spend some time revisiting rooms to get filled up on potions. You will need to get as much health and mana as you can with the last room will be the main boss. You just need to predict their movements and patterns to survive, but some can be quick and easy to kill that it will not matter.

As much as I played, there are around five to six different themes of enemies that goes with the themes, but eventually you will cycle through the same enemies once you go deeper into the dungeon. The first three enemies tend to be random, but the next two tend to be in the same order. Enemies do get tougher the further down you go, and you will notice the main bosses need to take more damage to bring them down depending on your build.

Your build has several attributes, but your three main ones are health, strength, and critical chance. When clearing a room, you may have a random chance to get a permanent increase to those three attributes for your character. The gear can make a big impact to your builds too especially if you pick the right kind of weapon to use. Weapons tend to go from high critical, low strength toward low critical but high strength with the sword at the middle. Equipment are also in sets, based on the color rarity. If you get a set of armor in all the same color rarity then you get additional attributes.

The touch controls are simple too, and I’d imagine it might be simple with a gamepad or a keyboard if you played the original flash game on your PC browser. You basically touch the screen, and your character moves to that position. If your character is near an enemy, he will start attacking the enemy without any additional input. If you want to do a charge or magic attack simply press and hold a part of the screen where your character will want to charge to. This attack can be quite deadly to a simple enemy as it will lead to a one-hit kill that could also explode the enemy in so many different bits.

If anyone wants a simple dungeon crawler, and feeling slightly nostalgic for the original Legend of Zelda then I would recommend this game; especially, for the price tag on the Android and iOS store.
