We Finally Get A Glimpse Of Cyberpunk 2077

in #gaming6 years ago

Ever since Polish game developer CD Projekt Red announced they were working on a game called Cyberpunk 2077, I have eagerly been awaiting a trailer or better glimpse at it since they teased us all the way back in 2013 with what they were working on.

Thanks to nerd Christmas aka E3 we finally get a look at what appears to be a very polished game nearing completion. While no release date has been announced just yet, it looks like we might possibly get the game by the end of the year or very least, early 2019.

If you're not familiar with CD Projekt Red, they're the studio behind the popular Witcher series and in particular, The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece and masterclass in a studio producing a quality game and then releasing a tonne of free DLC without microtransactions.

The trailer they released in January 2013 got fans really excited, it wasn't so much a trailer, but rather a video containing some artistic stills and concept art for the idea to generate excitement:

And to the exact day 2077 days later (very clever) they have finally released a trailer of actual in-game footage:

On Reddit, a user cleverly discovered that CD Projekt Red hid some text at the end of the trailer.

It's been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and... went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things - you announce a game and then shut up, roll up your sleeves, and go to work. We wanted to give you The Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077's pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At some point, we made a decision to resume talking about the game only when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realise you've been (im)patiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn't want anyone to feel that we're taking this for granted. On the contrary - it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too :).

But to the point. Today is the day. If you're seeing this, it means you saw the trailer - our vision of Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilised life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don't let the car chases and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You'll be able to create your own character and..., well, you'll get to know the rest from what we show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions, right?

When? When we told you we would only release the game when it's ready, we meant it. We're definitely much, much closer to a release date than we were back then :), but it's still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.

How big? Seriously big, but..., to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we'll do this before we start talking about any pre-orders or ask anything of you.

Free DLC/Expansions/DRM? Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM-free on PC.

Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion (about anything) with us. We read everything you post and we treat it very seriously.

Yours, CD PROJEKT RED Team

Not only did they stuff a lengthy message into the video, they also put some Witcher 3 expansion passes for Xbox into it as well (since claimed).

CD Projekt Red is the golden standard for how a game developer and publisher should act. They don't rush out their games, opting for quality over profits and as a result they have built a reputation as one of the best studios around.

I never preorder games anymore because I have been burned way too many times with day one bugs and server problems, but I will always preorder games from CD Projekt Red because they never disappoint and they deserve all of the money they can get. You only have to scroll through the above linked Reddit thread to see many others feel the same.

Yes! I was pumped when I saw the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 and one of the best things about it is that Cyberpunk 2077 is clearly defined already so all they have to do is use their resources to create the game around the world of Cyberpunk. This is in my top 10 will buy list for sure. Like you said, I NEVER preorder games anymore. The last one was Fallout 4 pipboy edition and that was the last one forever. Rather give it time to finish cooling before getting yourself burned grabbing for it right out of the oven.

This trailer reminds me a lot of deus ex which is something very good with so much time in development I just wait for the game map to be huge
