Table-Top Discussions: Sorcerer Shenanigans Part 2

I previously told a tale of my Sorcerer getting one of the party killed because he screwed up and got himself taken hostage, and said that somewhere down the line, I'd follow up with another tale of his shenanigans. And that time is now, here is how he ended up making everyone look even worse when they were already being set up.

A bit about his character, he was playing a female sorcerer who would use her charms to deceive and advance her agenda, whatever it happened to be at the time. They arrive at a port, and in the process his character makes a big scene, garnering a lot of attention. Not negatively, mind you. This bit was pretty smart, he was having his character immediately endear herself to the dockworkers and managers since this is a very strict and 'rule of law' type of town, and they weren't scheduled to be there. By smoothing everything over immediately, the process was made a lot smoother.

Fast forward to where later that night, the get some kind of lead on the cult they are looking into and end up in a privately owned garden, one full of rare plants from around the world that one would normally be charged to enter. It was closed at this point in the night, but they came across dead guards and a devil who killed them. Fun fact, even if you kill a devil, their bodies don't stay behind. The body returns to the realm of hell the originated from. Not that it mattered, as he was able to Teleport away in time. Note, this group has a Summoner in it,who has been summoning hell hounds to fight. Guards show up, see most of the party there, dead guards, and a bunch of hell hounds that one of the party was able to dismiss. Two characters, however, managed to hide before the guards spotted them, the rogue and sorcerer.

I'm sitting here thinking, 'Okay, two members got away. They are smart players, and they have enough to go on to be able to work from the shadows to gather the necessary evidence to...'and then the sorcerer decides she will grab the rogue and run out of the bush with him, claiming to have been a couple who snuck into the garden for a little make-out session when all this happened.

At first the idea was they were going to pose as an unrelated third party, who didn't know who any of these people were. This may have been a good idea, at least until you remember that short little story about when they arrived at the docks. Paperwork was filled out, and with the impression he left on the Dock Manager there is no way he wouldn't remember them coming in together, plus a crew that ran there ship that had no idea they may have needed to lie to authorities about who they came into town with.Meaning no matter how good he was at bluffing, and he definitely fooled the guards that apprehended them and got a lot of special treatment, once a cursory investigation of who entered into town that day, not only were these newcomers seen standing over dead guards and known to be summoning Hell Hounds, now it seems they had one of them ready, in advance of guards showing up, to lie about what happened and cover the groups actions.

This campaign almost ended with my group having to make a great escape from a very high-security prison, which could have been a lot of fun, but thanks to my Cleric taking lead during the trial, they were able to get out of the mess. Though I won't lie, It may have been fun to run a prison escape. Maybe I shouldn't have let them off the hook.....

Sort:

Sounds like a typical D&D campaign, haha!

Well, you never know what was left in the files about the incident... and law enforcement types are talking to each other all the time... So being a "person of interest" as soon as you enter a new town might be aggravating sooner or later...
