Life as a Gamer | Disney doesn't care about games for it's franchises anymore

in #gaming5 years ago (edited)

Do you want to see a new Star Wars game anytime soon? Well, too bad. You just have to sit and wait.

Star Wars Galaxies

Disney + EA = meh

There was an open world Star Wars game on development by EA which was recently cancelled. It was supposed to be the new Star Wars Galaxies, but it fell apart. It wasn't because Disney was involved with this decision, no, they're perfectly fine with how EA is doing things. Even then, Disney says they have a "good relationship". source

After a long, not-so-successful history of trying to develop their own games, they've settled with licensing because, well, it's easier and cost effective. It doesn't take much money to settle deals and contracts bring money in on the long run.

Sure, this sounds awful for their gamer fans, but can you really blame them? They tried really hard. It's company, but it's still ran by humans. I wish someone else who actually makes use of the licenses would get them since EA only put out 2 games since they became the licensee. But it's still an industry, a business, afterall.

Considering good franchises have mostly gotten only bad sequels and (some good) remakes, we're going through harsh times as fans of whatever virtual lore we've come to love.
