Playing Crash remakes shows how different games used to be
Go through a challenging and fun level. Break all the boxes to unlock secrets. Die multiple times in the same spot while trying to learn it. Get power ups. Revist maps to reveal hidden paths. Strive for 100% completion.
The recipe of [g]ames. Simple, challenging and extremely fun. Almost noone follows this anymore, because most developers are out there for the profit instead of passion for games. Mobile is the prime reference here, but AAA consoles sadly also lack a gamer's mindset.
Please let me know about any you are aware of any new franchises following this playstyle.
Hey, at least today's Activision makes great remakes. Better than nothing. Capcom can learn a thing or two from them. Not because of Resident Evil 2, but Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Mega Man collections...

There aren't many games that come to mind with gameplay cycles like Crash trilogy. But some companies still focus on "Fun" these days like Ninitendo main titles.
By the way, how do you think Capcom can improve its SF/Megaman collections?
