Back to the world of portable consoles, we talked about the PlayStation Portable before it was released, but before it was released Nintendo had dominated the marketing with a console that did not last long in the market, it's the Game Boy Advance.

It was released in March 2001 as a 32-bit console, however, it could not run 3D graphics in the same way as the PlayStation, because its GPU was not designed to render these types of graphics, it was actually focused on 2D.

However, there were developers who tried to get the most out of the Game Boy Advance, games like Resident Evil 2 or Doom had 3D graphics, but unfortunately, due to technical limitations, it is not recommended to play them on this platform.

Many consider the Game Boy Advance to be really a Super Nintendo, but portable, that's because many of the games on the above-mentioned console were released for Advance, and you can experience these great titles from anywhere.

The Game Boy Advance used the cartridge format to run the games, the internal memory of these could be from 16 Mb to 128 Mb, the latter were the most expensive due to their capacity, currently considered the most difficult to get due to the little they were sold.

Although a wide variety of titles came out for this Nintendo system did not extend its life time much, this was because SONY would soon release its PSP, so the Game Boy Advance would become completely obsolete, that is how the story for the Nintendo DS would begin.

This console had 3 models which vary in many ways, which are as follows:

Game Boy Advance: It is the first model with which the console was launched on the market, ergonomically very comfortable, many consider this look is really incredible, however, has a major flaw and is its screen, although it is color has no backlight, to play in it is necessary to have a good ambient lighting, also is retro compatible with its predecessors.

Game Boy SP: They consider it the ultimate console, unlike the previous one the screen was backlit, incorporated a lithium battery that supported more than 10 hours of play and fully rechargeable, changed its ergonomic shape from the previous model, is something that many users did not like, however, its small size makes it easier to carry, is also retrocompatible with previous portable consoles.

Game Boy Micro: This would be the small version of the first Advance, it was the size of an NES controller with a screen in the middle which was smaller than its previous models, unfortunately this model was a commercial failure, the reason is because it was not retrocompatible and was more expensive than the SP, so many preferred to go over it and buy the one that offered more benefits, also had a built-in lithium battery and backlit display.

Many SNES games can be found in the Game Boy Advance, including redesigns of the NES, but not only was it based on that list of titles of yesteryear, also had its exclusives which were really impressive as for example the Metroid or the Golden Sun, soon we will see in an article (or several) the best video games released on this portable console.

Although the Game Boy Advance Game Paks were a bit expensive, they had the success they deserved because of the quality of the Game Boy Advance game cartridges, sadly it lasted only 3 years after its release because Nintendo released the DS in 2004, but incredibly more than 85 million Game Boy Advance Game Paks were sold, which suggests that it was a handheld console well received by the gamer community with excellent quality.

Aaah back to the good old days! And I have to admit ... I still love to play sometimes on the good old gameboy advance.
