What would happen to video games if this game hadn't existed?

If you're an old school gamer just by looking at the cover image you'll know which video game is going to address this issue, but if you're a young man who has no idea do not worry, first of all, we must prepare to go to the past and explore certain events that allowed the evolution of video games.

At the end of the 70's the fever to have a videogame console was something incredible, in those times the most popular console of all indisputably was the Atari 2600, its extensive catalog allowed you to choose a variety of games that in those years were the ultimate in entertainment for anyone.

Despite all the positive aspects that existed in this industry there was a flaw, unfortunately Atari did not have any quality control in video games, so any developer could make a mediocre game, this company was only interested in multiplying their money at all costs so they could have the greatest profits in their bank accounts.

That's how one day they decided to invest more than 20 million dollars in the license and manufacture of a video game, this was E.T. which was one of the most blockbuster movies in those days, so Atari wanted to have the exclusivity to sell a huge amount of these cartridges, however, it lacked the most important thing, make the video game.

They only gave the programmer less than 6 weeks to do it, as you know this is not enough time to do this task, but Atari's didn't care about it, they just wanted money, as a result one of the most horrible, gloomy and lamentable video games in video game history came out, making the popularity of video game consoles decrease by leaps and bounds.

This was the most serious action that led video games to the crash of 1983, at that time many people would discard investing their money again in this type of device, however, would come a company called Nintendo to recover ground throughout America.

Now comes the million-dollar question, what if this video game had never existed? Surely the company Atari would not have millionaire losses by the fact of investing so much money in that title, in addition in the present time probably existed videogames of this company, competing this way with others of totally alternative names to the reality.

Let's remember that thanks to that serious error of Atari other companies like Nintendo had their quality seal where they certified the videogames they put on the market, so surely this wouldn't exist either, or maybe Atari and Nintendo would have had an alliance to make a totally unique console, are things that can excite anyone, but it's just imagination.

Probably there would not have been a PlayStation or other consoles that we know today, even the crash would be generated in the 90's, so many possibilities would exist that we can form a will with this, however, was necessary to happen, was one of the things that helped the industry to mold until today.

What do you think would have happened to video games today if E.T. didn't exist for Atari 2600? Leave your opinion in the comments box.
