Pokemon: Latest and Final Meltan Update!

Nintendo continues to leverage the Pokemon fanbase and the success of Pokemon Go to market to the potential players of the upcoming Nintendo Switch games, Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pickahu. In the previous month’s Community Day event, a new, never before seen Pokemon was released in the wild that when caught would change into a Ditto. While similar to it, it lead to previews from Pokemon marketing of research between Professors Willow and Oak to determine he is a long lost mythical Pokemon.

The latest update from the Pokemon Company not only confirms that this Pokemon attracts metal but that it can also evolve to the Pokemon called Melmetal. The preview said that it is the result of many Meltan’s combining! It is the first Legendary or Mythical Pokemon that can evolve (excluding the Mega evolution which are really only temporary). As confirmed, it appears that this Pokemon is being used to tie the existing popular mobile game Pokemon Go with the upcoming release of Pokemon Let’s Go for the Nintendo Switch.

It is said that these Pokemon’s can be caught by transferring Pokemon between these games where a special box will be granted. In addition, by transferring other Pokemon between games, candy will be able to be received for Meltan as well. It seems that candy will be important as it is reported that 400 will be needed to evolve Meltan into Melmetal! I think this is a great way to promote new games and while a bit unfair for those who want all of the Pokemon, I think it is a fun way to combine games and engage players. It also demonstrates the power of potential technology as the franchise prepares to release Generation Eight in 2019!
