Pokemon Go: Advantages of Adventure Sync Update

After playing for a little over a month with the new Adventure Sync update, I can say that I believe it is one of the best technology updates that Niantic has released for Pokemon Go ever. In an unexpected update last month, Niantic released an update that allowed activity of walking while the game being idle to be recorded for certain tasks in game. In the past, in order to get credit for traveling distances within the game, the game needed to be on unless secondary devices were present.

The Pokemon Go Plus bracelet is a device that allowed the game to work in the background while giving you the opportunity to spin PokeStops and Gyms in addition to catching Pokemon by pressing a button without necessarily having to have the game on on your phone. However, it was never the best alternative as it would sometimes failed to record distances traveled. In addition, Pokemon Go released an app for the Apple Watch as well which allowed for tracking distance as well as tracking nearby Pokemon but no spinning stops or catching Pokemon.

The latest Adventure Sync now allows you to get credit for the distance tracked for earning candy walking Pokemon and hatching eggs. Given my experiences with the connectivity of the other devices mentioned, I was not too excited about this announcement but after a month of seeing it in use, it has been a great addition in update. I now have less of a need to keep the phone on the game throughout the day and when I do put it back on, I find that I have earned some candy or even hatched an egg or two with the background activity. With the update, they also added some weekly challenges for distances that award items for your Pokemon. There are three tiers: 5 km, 25 km, and 50km. The amount of items given is huge so it provides an additional incentive to be active throughout the day.
