Dragon's Dogma is Getting its own Anime Adaptation

After the success of its Castlevania animated adaptation, Netflix is adding another video game series to its anime catalogue: Dragon's Dogma. It was announced earlier today that the streaming platform is partnering with animation studio Sublimation to create the series. For those who may be unfamiliar with Sublimation, the studio has previously helped work on a number of other anime titles including: The Ancient Magnus' Bride, Tokyo Ghoul and the anime adaptation of the God Eater video game series.

In a press release from Netflix the Representative Director from Sublimation, Atsushi Koishikawa said:

"Sublimation team has long dreamt of working on our own title. We have oftentimes worked with partner studios to create partial CGI potions within a given title, so we feel very fortunate to work with Netflix through this production line deal. We're excited to bring our unique cel shaded animation that carries hand-drawn textures to anime fans around the world."

While the release date for the adaptation is yet to be revealed, what we have been told so far says that the story will bare a resemblance to the story from the original CAPCOM RPG. The show will feature a man seeking revenge on a dragon who has stolen his heart but on his journey he is brought back to life as an 'Arisen'. It was also revealed that the man must contend with a number of demons who are representations of humanity's seven deadly sins.

Dragon's Dogma was initially released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012 and the following year the game released an expanded version titled: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. The game has been ported to several other platforms since then which included PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC but it was also recently revealed that the game would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch on April 23 - so if you still need an introduction to the series, now is your chance!
